Congratulations on expecting, this is such an exciting time!!
I want all of you to know that I have transitioned away from my "in-home" studio setting for newborns. I now offer what's called a lifestyle session for families with a newborn. This is where I come to you in the comfort of your own home and document your family and new bundle of joy! Don't worry, we will still get all of those adorable, squishy, little poses I'm sure you were hoping for. If you like the sounds of that, then keep reading. I look forward to hearing from you to schedule such an amazing shoot!
I love shooting newborns, however they can be extremly challenging at times. There is a bit of prep and planning involved in order for your session to be successful. Below I have provided a few tips to help us get the very best out of your upcoming lifestyle session!
I recommend scheduling your lifestyle session PRIOR to your baby being born! With my schedule being fully booked throughout most of the year, there’s no guarantee I can squeeze you in if you’re not already on my schedule. When scheduling this session, please pick your due date so I know I'll be expecting a newborn session soon with you around that time. Then, contact me soon after your sweet, new, bundle of joy has arrived and I will get you in as soon as possible.
This session is to be scheduled within the first 14 days of life. However, the BEST time is between the first 4-7 days after their arrival. This allows for me to get them in those adorable poses! However, the older they get, the more alert they are of their bodies and the harder it will be!
In order to get those sweet, sleepy poses, I recommend doing whatever it takes to make sure they will be in deep sleep during our session. Keeping your little one awake 1-2 hours before our session will help make the baby nice and exhausted. ** I can't stress enough the importance of keeping them awake prior to the session! **
A well fed baby is a HAPPY baby! Please feed and burp the baby right before our session to ensure a happy, sleepy ('milk drunk') baby!
When I come to you for your lifestyle session, I ask that you open all the blinds and curtains PRIOR to my arrival. This allows me to find the best source of natural light in your home and I can begin to set up. I will also bring additional lighting to help out when needed, so don’t worry if you have a darker home. Also, CRANK THE HEAT!! Babies are use to being all bundled up and cozy, and when I undress them to get those adorable, naked newborn shots they don't tend to like that unless it remains warm! So keeping the house at a warmer temperature will help and a few trips back and forth to the dryer to warm up wraps and blankets may be beneficial as well! I also will be dressed comfortably and cool, I suggest you do the same, because it's going to get toasty!
We will use any of your favorite blankets or wraps for our session and of course you are welcome to use any of your own props. I love using props with a lot of texture, color or of importance to help make your images unique. However, we might not get a chance to use all the props but we will look through them together to determine what's going to work best.
Last but not least, RELAX! I know this seems like a lot, but everything will fall into place. There will be a time for cleaning up messes and breaks for feeding. Don't stress about this, IT'S NORMAL! We want a happy baby, so whatever we need to do, we will do it!
I can't wait to meet your sweet, little one! Most importantly, I can't wait to create an image that you will be able to cherish for a lifetime. Newborn moments can be gone in just the blink of an eye, so let me capture this moment for you and your family! I look forward to hearing from you!
